Mr. Andy Hales (55 years old), a businessman from Birmingham, England, has caught a colossal great white shark weighing nearly 2 tons off the coast of South Africa.
This giant shark measures up to 5 meters in length and is the largest great white shark ever caught. The previous record was held by a shark weighing 1.2 tons, caught in Australia in 1959.
Mr. Hales is the managing director of Zone Cee Construction Services in Hall Green. He stated that after the shark bit the hook, he had to tie the fishing rod tightly to a chair on the boat and let the shark drag the vessel around until it grew exhausted.
He struggled for 2 hours to “tame” the gigantic fish. “You would never want an angry giant shark thrashing right next to the boat while it’s still very strong. Just one small mistake, and you could find yourself at the bottom of the sea,” he said.
The businessman further shared: “Just like in the movie Jaws, I thought I needed a bigger boat. In the end, I could hardly believe that I had caught such a massive shark.”
