A new management system being developed in Australia allows sheep to decide when to eat, drink, weigh themselves, and ultimately become lamb for the next day’s meal.
This system aims to create happier sheep while saving farmers time by enabling them to manage their flocks remotely through a personal computer.
Project director Bill Murray from the Australian Sheep Industry stated, “In the future, the animals will not realize they are being managed; they will simply go about their daily tasks.”
The system operates on solar power and consists of multiple components, including electronic tags, an automated yard system, a software package, and a connecting modem.
