With the assistance of young biologist Duong Tan Nhat, two female students from the Faculty of Biology at the University of Natural Sciences (Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City) successfully researched and hybridized a new variety of torenia flower (Torenia ourieri) at the laboratory in the Dalat Institute of Biology.

The research and experimentation conducted between 2004 and 2005 saw student Pham Minh Thu utilizing biological techniques to cultivate purple torenia flowers in a test tube, with the plants developed from leaf cell embryos of the parent plant grown from seeds.
Subsequently (from August 2005 to present), student Nguyen Ngoc Thi has studied the process of stimulating growth responses in young plants using trace element factors to alter the biological structure of the plants… As a result, a new beautiful variety of torenia flower has been created, featuring white blooms instead of the original purple (see image)…
