Two major Japanese corporations, NTT Data and Nissan Motor, introduced an electronic alert system yesterday designed to warn drivers when children are crossing the street.
The device will emit signals to alert drivers of the presence of children on the streets. Additionally, it allows children to send distress signals by pressing a button on a card they carry with them. The system is expected to undergo real-world testing from December 2005 to March 2006 in Yokohama, southwest of Tokyo. However, this device has shown to have several limitations due to its high cost and the requirement that both pedestrians and drivers be equipped with it.
