Chinese scientists claim they have created a real-life “Death Star” capable of destroying enemy satellites in orbit.
The “Death Star” is the name of the massive fictional space station from the famous Star Wars franchise. In the Star Wars universe, the “Death Star” is equipped with a super laser capable of annihilating entire planets.

Recently, however, Chinese scientists announced that they have created a real-life “Death Star.” They stated that this weapon integrates numerous small microwave radiation pulses into a dangerous high-energy beam. Thus, this real-life “Death Star” can concentrate many powerful microwave radiation beams onto a single target. For the beams to converge, they must hit the designated target within 170 picoseconds.
According to the South China Morning Post, the necessary precision is significantly greater than that of atomic clocks used for GPS satellites. Nevertheless, Chinese scientists believe they have solved this issue and achieved extremely high time synchronization. They also mentioned that this new technology could jam GPS signals and those of American satellites. Furthermore, it is suited for various purposes such as training, exercises, and testing new weapons.
The Sun reported that this weapon system has recently completed testing for military purposes. Chinese academic publications suggest that microwave beam weapons are being developed primarily for use in space, while advanced laser types are being created for use on land, at sea, or in the air.
China has previously developed high-power microwave (HPM) weapons capable of disrupting radar systems, computers, telecommunications infrastructure, and even missiles and satellites.
