Chinese electric vehicle giant Wuling has unveiled a new advancement in mobile charging station technology for electric vehicles (EVs), revolutionizing the way energy is supplied to cars in the age of renewable energy.
Last week at the 2024 China Import and Export Fair (Canton Fair), Wuling introduced two models of autonomous mobile charging stations, providing flexible and quick utility for electric vehicle owners in areas where fixed charging stations are hard to access.
The mobile charging station is essentially a 141 kilowatt-hour (kWh) battery with self-driving capabilities, with the largest model measuring 7.5 feet long, 6.5 feet wide, and 3.1 feet high (equivalent to 2280 x 940 x 1969 mm). With autonomous movement speeds of up to 5 km/h, these stations can travel to any necessary location to charge electric vehicles, from downtown areas to suburban regions, offering a fresh solution to the demand for flexible charging.

A Solution to the Growing Demand for Electric Vehicles
Officially named “Mobile Energy Storage Charging Vehicle” (MESCV), Wuling’s product addresses the skyrocketing demand for flexible energy sources amid the increasing number of electric vehicles in China. In fact, the country is making significant strides in transitioning from traditional fuel vehicles to electric ones on the streets, and if this trend continues to expand, weekends and holidays may see long queues at fixed charging stations. In such scenarios, Wuling’s mobile charging stations are expected to be an effective solution to alleviate pressure on the public charging system.
This product is officially named “Mobile Energy Storage Charging Vehicle”.
Wuling has introduced not just one but two types of mobile charging vehicles:
- The smaller VA100T model with a 30 kWh battery and a 20 kW charging port priced at approximately $11,000.
- The more advanced model features a 141 kWh battery, fast charging capabilities, and is priced at around $42,000.
These two product lines offer various options to meet different consumer needs, from compact personal requirements to larger capacity demands for densely populated areas.
With autonomous capabilities, the vehicle can move anywhere.
A Revolution in Mobile Charging Networks
These mobile charging vehicles can expand the charging network in areas experiencing surges in demand, improving the efficiency and flexibility of public charging services. With self-driving capabilities, the vehicles can travel to any location (within permissible limits) to deliver energy without relying on fixed charging stations. When there is no urgent demand, the stations can automatically return to locations with the lowest electricity rates to recharge, thus optimizing operational costs.
These vehicles can serve as backup power sources for temporary areas needing substantial energy.
Wuling’s development and testing of the MESCV in the Chinese market also reflect the growing demand and interest among users. From car dealerships to service centers and industrial zones, this product is expected to quickly gain popularity in the near future. The mobility of the MESCV extends beyond just charging electric vehicles; these mobile vehicles can act as backup power sources for temporary areas requiring large amounts of energy.
The Future of EV Charging Stations in China
This product not only provides convenience in use but also promotes the development of the electric vehicle industry.
With the increasing population and vehicle density, China is leading the way in establishing infrastructure for new energy vehicles, from charging stations to mobile solutions like the MESCV. This product not only offers convenience but also drives the electric vehicle industry towards more robust growth. In the future, as the demand for electric vehicles rises further, the emergence of high-capacity and faster mobile charging stations will be an indispensable trend, not only in China but worldwide.
Wuling, with these innovative advancements, has demonstrated its foresight in providing flexible and convenient electric vehicle charging solutions for the market, creating a new direction for the renewable energy vehicle industry.
