In 2007, the 702 Institute of Scientific Research under the China Transportation Industry Group will complete the research and fabrication of a new manned submersible capable of descending to depths of 7,000 meters for the purpose of continental shelf exploration.

The new submersible features a hollow capsule design capable of accommodating three individuals and can descend vertically at a speed of 12 kilometers per hour. Additionally, this new submersible can collect approximately 75 kilograms of minerals using its advanced manipulator arms.
Mr. Cui Weicheng, President of the 702 Institute of Scientific Research under the China Transportation Industry Group stated, “As of now, most of the system components and the hollow capsule are ready; the entire system of this new device will be completed in 2007“.
