Chinese Police Arrest Man for Selling Children on Chinese eBay Just Days After Posting Ad
According to the Shanghai Daily, a man named Wu was apprehended by police on October 28, just seven days after he posted an immoral advertisement selling children online.
The disturbing ads first appeared on October 16 on Eachnet.com (the Chinese equivalent of eBay), offering to sell children over 100 days old from impoverished areas of Henan Province to anyone interested. The price listed for boys was 28,000 RMB (approximately $3,500), while girls were offered for half that at 13,000 RMB.
More than 50 people viewed the advertisement, but none proceeded to “place an order,” and the inhumane ad was later removed. The online posting was made under the name Chuangxinzhe Yongyuan, or the nickname “Constantly Innovating,” indicating his willingness to provide “high-quality” children to millions of infertile couples in China.
After Wu’s arrest and questioning, Chinese police stated that the advertisement was merely a joke. He claimed that during a visit to Xinyang County in Henan, he came across a flyer advertising child trafficking. Upon returning home to Shanghai, he decided to post the entire content from the flyer on Chinese eBay as a prank.
It remains unclear whether Wu is still laughing, as Chinese legal authorities have declared they will take strict action against such jokes.
