The Ministry of Information and Technology of China (MII) has recently decided to tighten regulations in the wireless service sector by charging 102 companies with illegal business practices.
More than 100 wireless service providers are at risk of having their licenses revoked if they continue to disregard the new regulations issued by the MII.
One of the regulations introduced by the MII requires providers to ensure service testing within one month before charging customers. This means that customers have the option to decide whether they want to continue using the service after the trial period.
The new regulations were announced two weeks ago and are viewed by analysts as a move targeting businesses that operate carelessly or exploit customers.
Previously, the MII had warned companies about their “tendency” to send spam or irrelevant content to consumers. This time, the new rules focus on companies that often charge fees exceeding the prescribed limits or create obstacles for customers wishing to cancel services.
