Cisco Systems® has recently introduced the new Cisco MDS 9513 Multilayer Director system. Designed with the capability to scale up to 528 ports in a single chassis, this latest version of their Cisco MDS 9000 product line will enhance the power of Storage Area Network (SAN) environments to meet demands for agility, rapid disaster recovery, management capabilities, performance, and cost-effectiveness.
Other breakthroughs announced alongside the MDS 9513 system include the Cisco SAN-OS 3.0 software version and Fibre Channel Switching components operating at 4Gbps and 10Gbps, applicable to both current and newly announced products in the MDS 9000 family. These new products encompass a full feature set of the MDS 9000 series, including Virtual SAN (VSAN), inter-VSAN routing, as well as advanced security, diagnostics, and management features. Furthermore, new functionalities in SAN-OS 3.0 include advanced port bandwidth management and enhanced FICON capabilities.
Similar to all other systems in Cisco’s MDS 9500 series, the MDS 9513 system offers an advanced feature set and capabilities that maximize bandwidth utilization to ensure system throughput, even during failures. Other high availability features include dual-monitoring mode, software upgrade support without system downtime, component software with the most stable reboot cycle, support for inter-switch links (ISL) that can scale up to 16 ports per system, and optimal utilization of all essential hardware components.
The Cisco MDS 9513 Multilayer Director system and the newly announced components are expected to be widely available in the market through Cisco partners starting in May 2006.
