While taking his family out for a fishing trip off the coast, Brett Reeder, a fisherman from Florida, nearly lost a finger while trying to approach a shark.
Specifically, after catching a lemon shark, Brett Reeder’s family was extremely excited. However, when Brett attempted to get close to the fish to remove the hook from its mouth, a horrifying accident occurred.
In a clip recorded by Brett Reeder’s wife, he is seen bending down and trying to grab the shark with his bare hands. Suddenly, the shark became agitated, thrashing violently to escape Brett’s grasp.
The shark bit down hard on Brett Reeder’s hand, causing him to scream in pain. (Image captured from the clip).
Afterwards, it clamped down with its teeth on Brett’s hand, causing him to yell out in agony. Although Brett tried to pull his hand away, the shark held on tightly, twisting its body as if to tear off Brett’s finger. Fortunately, the man was able to free his hand from the shark’s mouth.
Following the incident, Brett Reeder was taken to the hospital for examination. Despite suffering severe bruising, his fingers were saved.
Lemon sharks are large coastal sharks found in the western Atlantic, ranging from New Jersey to Brazil, along the coasts of West Africa and the Pacific. They typically measure about 10 feet long and can weigh up to 200 pounds. Although they are quite active predators, lemon sharks are not considered a significant threat to humans, and there have been no recorded fatalities caused by lemon sharks. |
