A recent study indicates that drinking coffee does not raise blood pressure in women. The true “culprit” behind elevated blood pressure is cola!
“We found strong evidence that coffee is not related to increased blood pressure in women,” said Dr. Wolfgang Winkelmayer, the lead researcher.
Previous studies suggested a link between coffee consumption and high blood pressure; however, many experts concluded that healthy individuals can safely consume 1-2 cups of coffee per day without adverse effects.
The conclusion that coffee does not increase blood pressure was drawn from data collected over 12 years involving 33,077 women with hypertension out of a total of 155,594 women studied.
However, researchers discovered a correlation between hypertension and the consumption of caffeinated cola, regardless of whether the beverage was sugary or diet. “We found that the ingredients in soda are the factors that contribute to increased blood pressure,” the researchers stated.
Hypertension raises the risk of developing diseases such as heart disease, stroke, and kidney problems. In the United States, nearly 50 million people have hypertension, and this number is on the rise.
