Due to the influence of intensified cold air, from January 27th to the end of the month, the Northern region will experience severe cold, while the Central region will face prolonged rain and chilly weather.
During the Tet holiday, the weather across the country is relatively pleasant, making it favorable for spring outings to welcome the new year. However, starting tomorrow, January 27th, the Northern region will see rain and severe cold, with daily average temperatures dropping to between 13 and 15 degrees Celsius.
According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, the reason for this weather change is the arrival of a strong cold air mass, which will spread to the Northern region tonight and tomorrow, causing prolonged severe cold that will last until the end of January.
Common minimum temperatures will range from 9 to 12 degrees Celsius, with mountainous areas experiencing temperatures between 6 and 9 degrees Celsius. Areas at elevations above 1,500 meters, such as Mẫu Sơn (Lạng Sơn), Sa Pa (Lào Cai), and Đồng Văn (Hà Giang), may see temperatures drop below 3 degrees Celsius. Rain is expected on the night of January 26th and throughout January 27th, after which the weather will shift to drier conditions.

In the Central region, due to the effects of the cold air, from January 27th to 28th, areas from Hà Tĩnh to Bình Định will experience rain, with some places receiving heavy rainfall (50-100 mm within 24 hours). After January 28th, rainfall is expected to gradually decrease.
The provinces from Thanh Hóa to Thừa Thiên Huế will have cold rain until the end of the week, with minimum temperatures in Thanh Hóa, Nghệ An, and Hà Tĩnh only reaching 13-15 degrees Celsius, while areas from Quảng Bình to Thừa Thiên Huế will range from 15-17 degrees Celsius. Daytime temperatures will generally remain below 20 degrees Celsius.
From early tomorrow morning, the northeastern wind in the Gulf of Tonkin will intensify to levels 6-7, with gusts reaching levels 8-9, causing wave heights of 2-4 meters and strong sea conditions. The North and Central regions of the East Sea, particularly the waters from Quảng Trị to Cà Mau, will also see north-eastern winds strengthen to levels 6-7, with sea waves rising to 3-6 meters, resulting in rough seas.
The Central Highlands and Southern region will also be affected by the cold air, leading to little rain from now until the end of the week, with nighttime temperatures dropping significantly. In the Central Highlands, temperatures will range from 14 to 17 degrees Celsius at night, and from 24 to 27 degrees Celsius during the day. In the Southern region, nighttime temperatures will be between 19 to 22 degrees Celsius, and daytime temperatures will be sunny, reaching 30 to 32 degrees Celsius.
Forecasts for the first 20 days of February indicate that average temperatures in the Northern region, as well as in the North and Central Coast, will generally be about 0.5-1 degrees Celsius lower than the average for the same period in previous years, while other areas will be about 0.5 degrees Celsius lower.
In the Northern region, particularly in Thanh Hóa and Nghệ An, there will generally be little rain, while the area from Hà Tĩnh to Khánh Hòa will see total rainfall about 15-40 mm higher than the long-term average. The Central Highlands and Southern region may continue to experience unusual rainfall, with total precipitation exceeding the long-term average by 5-15 mm.
