A technology company in Germany offers a service to freeze bodies awaiting revival for 5.5 billion VND, promising a refund when customers are brought back to life after deducting actual costs.
Tomorrow Bio, a high-tech startup based in Berlin, Germany, is providing body freezing services. Many customers are willing to pay a large sum to enroll, hoping that one day in the distant future, they can be revived. Each client must make a one-time payment of $222,603 (approximately 5.5 billion VND), plus a monthly maintenance fee of $55 (about 1.4 million VND).
“I believe that with advancements in technology, we can completely preserve the body and find ways to revive it in the future. This work opens up a potential pathway to extend human life,” co-founder of Tomorrow Bio, Mr. Fernando Azevedo Pinheiro, shared with the media.
The company claims that so far, 6 people and 5 pets have utilized the body freezing service. The company’s waiting list includes 650 clients with an average age of 36. These individuals hope that after passing away, their bodies will be immediately placed in a freezer for preservation.
Immediately after a customer passes away, Tomorrow Bio ensures that the body is preserved in a non-decomposing environment.
“None of them expect to die young, but birth, aging, illness, and death are inevitable,” Mr. Pinheiro stated.
The preservation process begins as soon as the authorities confirm that the customer has passed away. Tomorrow Bio uses a specialized ambulance that functions as a mobile freezer to collect the body for preservation.
According to Mr. Pinheiro, the fluids in the body are replaced with medical antifreeze to prevent irreversible cellular damage. The body is kept in a cold chamber for over a week until its temperature drops to about -320 degrees Fahrenheit, after which it is stored in a long steel container filled with liquid nitrogen for long-term preservation.
In the future, if any customer is successfully revived like in the sci-fi superhero film Captain America, Tomorrow Bio will refund the customer’s payment after deducting various fees and taxes. To enhance the appeal of their service, the company cites successful examples of scientists using similar methods to preserve and reuse rabbit kidneys.
“Many customers have a long-term vision. They are attracted by the prospect of future technologies and exciting experiences, such as space travel,” Pinheiro said.
