Results of the tender for selecting a partner to supply satellites, launch services, and equipment for the telecommunications satellite control station in Vietnam (Vinasat) have determined that Lockheed Martin Commercial Space Systems (USA) has won the bid with a bid price of 168 million USD.
This contractor is regarded by experts as a leading company in the United States and the world in the production of telecommunications satellites. Lockheed Martin secured the contract after surpassing two other competitors: EADS Astrium/Alcatel Alenia Space (France) and Sumitomo Corporation (Japan).
It is expected that today (May 12), the Vietnam National Postal and Telecommunications Group (VNPT), the project investor for the Vinasat satellite launch, and the American contractor will sign the contract for this bidding package. The Vinasat satellite is scheduled to be completed in two years and must be launched into orbit no later than May 23, 2008.
