To run the new Microsoft operating system, PCs need to have at least 800 MB of free disk space. Even for basic office applications, users are required to clear 1 GB of memory. For gaming, players will need even more space.

Even a lightweight game like Far Cry requires over 2 GB. (The Amazon) |
Recently, Fuad Abazovic, a reporter for the tech publication The Inquirer (UK) and an avid gamer, had the opportunity to test playing Far Cry on a PC equipped with an Athlon 4000 processor and a Geforce 7800 GTX graphics card, running on the Vista operating system. The purpose of this test was to check the memory requirements for gaming on Vista, even though it was still in beta.
However, to run a game that is not too demanding and “heavy” like this, Abazovic found that the computer would need an additional 1 GB, specifically 1.23 GB according to the test results.
For “heavyweight” games like F.E.A.R, Battlefield, or The Godfather, gamers will likely need a much larger free hard drive space compared to Far Cry, as F.E.A.R already occupied about 2 GB when running on Windows XP.
Windows Vista is the next generation operating system following Windows XP. Microsoft recently announced that the release of this version has officially been postponed to January 2007.
