While taking a stroll, a couple unexpectedly came across a brown snake struggling to swallow a catfish.
While walking on the dock near Chocowinity, North Carolina, USA, John Carney Edwards and his wife unexpectedly spotted a snake straining to consume a catfish.
Immediately, they recorded a video on their phone and posted it on their personal Facebook with the caption: “This is definitely not something you see every day.”
In the video, half of the snake’s body is submerged in the water, while the other half is stretched out on the wooden surface. The snake is trying to open its mouth wide enough to swallow the catfish. Although the fish remains motionless, the snake still faces significant difficulty in tackling such a large prey.

According to the North Carolina Zoo, the snake belongs to the non-venomous brown water snake species. The brown water snake is native to the southwestern United States. Adult snakes typically measure about 30 to 60 inches (76 to 152 cm) in length.
Their favorite prey is catfish. The spines of this fish can puncture the snake while it is swallowing its meal. However, this does not significantly affect the brown water snake, as it has the ability to heal these wounds.
