For those who love the scent of roses, it may soon be possible to bring that fragrance home or even send it to loved ones far away. Scientists at the Tokyo Institute of Technology are developing a device that captures and reproduces scents.
This device analyzes aromas through 15 sensor sets, storing scent samples in digital form and then recreating these scents by blending 96 chemicals to produce a vapor.
The new device also has the capability to capture scents from a specific location—thanks to sensors in mobile phones, for example—and transmit that scent to someone experiencing it across the globe.
