Just a few hours earlier, Austria confirmed its first cases of avian influenza in another pair of deceased swans.
The H5N1 virus has recently been detected in Italy, Greece, and Bulgaria.
A representative from the German Ministry of Agriculture stated that the deceased animals have been sent to a laboratory in the UK for further testing. The detection of the virus in Germany is expected to have serious implications.
The Austrian government has also imposed restrictions on the movement of poultry in Mellach, near Graz, where the two cases of avian influenza were reported on Tuesday.
Authorities have established a protection zone with a radius of three kilometers in Mellach, along with a surveillance zone extending ten kilometers outside of it.
Farmers within the protection zone are prohibited from trading poultry, while farms within the surveillance zone are allowed to continue operations.
