Scientists reported on Thursday that the Earth’s magnetic North Pole is rapidly drifting away from North America toward Siberia.
The magnetic North Pole is generated by the magnetic field produced by molten iron in the Earth’s core, and it does not coincide with the geographic North Pole. The magnetic North Pole was discovered in 1831, and when measured again in 1904, scientists found that it had moved 46.5 kilometers.
To date, the reason for the magnetic North Pole’s drift remains unexplained, but if the magnetic North Pole continues to move away from Canada, we may no longer witness the magical Northern Lights in Alaska. This phenomenon is created by the interaction of particles in sunlight with various gases in the Earth’s atmosphere. Humanity may be facing the risk of losing one of the most beautiful natural landscapes in the world.
