Research findings from scientists at the Oakland Children’s Hospital (USA) and Heinrich Heine University (Germany) indicate that a chemical found in cacao beans may help reduce the secretion of fluids that lead to diarrhea.
Cacao beans are rich in flavonoids, a type of chemical that inhibits a protein in the intestines known as CFTR, which is responsible for controlling fluid secretion in the small intestine. This mechanism helps combat diarrhea by minimizing fluid loss in the intestines. The discovery opens up promising avenues for developing cost-effective natural therapies for diarrhea that are also free from side effects. (MedIndia)
