When dealing with private and important data files, it is advisable to encrypt them after use to prevent unauthorized access. There are several programs available that can help you achieve this by setting a password for protection, ensuring that only those who know the password can access these data files! We would like to introduce you to the data encryption program PicoCrypt, which is extremely lightweight, easy to use, and offers a relatively high level of security.
PicoCrypt is a portable application that does not require installation. This feature makes it convenient to use on your computer or to save on a USB drive for encrypting files that need protection. The process of using PicoCrypt to encrypt and decrypt files is straightforward. First, double-click on the file “pcrypt-0.1.1.exe” (located on your hard drive or USB) to launch the PicoCrypt application. A dialog box titled “Enter Default Password” will appear; you can click OK or Cancel to bypass this dialog and access the main interface of the PicoCrypt program.
To encrypt a specific file, click on the File menu and select “Encrypt...” This will open the “Open” dialog box. In this dialog, select the file you wish to password protect. After selecting the file, click the Open button. The “Enter Password” dialog will appear, prompting you to enter your chosen password into the two fields labeled “Enter your password for the following file” and “Retype password again for verification” (the passwords in these two fields must match exactly). Finally, click the OK button. Once encrypted, the file will be unusable unless decrypted with the PicoCrypt program.
When you need to remove the password to decrypt a file, click on the File menu and select “Decrypt.” Next, select the file you wish to decrypt in the “Open” dialog box. After selecting the file, click the OK button. Now, you will need to re-enter the password you set for encryption into the two fields “Enter your password for the following file” and “Retype password again for verification” to decrypt the file. Once decrypted, you will be able to use the file normally.
PicoCrypt version 0.1.1 is compatible with Windows 95/98/NT/Me/2000/XP operating systems. You can download PicoCrypt for free from the website: http://www.picofactory.com/download/pcrypt-0.1.1.exe (14 KB).
