The stunning levitation performance by David Copperfield left the audience astonished, with no clear explanation, and even modern scientists have “thrown up their hands” and are reluctant to study it. However, if viewed from the perspective of Eastern science regarding the human body, this is simply a potential that anyone could possess.

Finding Answers to David Copperfield’s Levitation Magic

He truly flew!

The classic performance, intricately crafted, has marked the fame of David Copperfield, astonishing billions. Set against a picturesque backdrop, he raised his arms and began to rise into the air. His expression was devoid of worry, instead reflecting calmness and ease.

To this day, no loopholes have been found in this act. Many claim it is magic, but he indeed flew amidst the astonishment of everyone.

Not only did he fly, but David Copperfield is also famous for many other unique performances, including walking through the Great Wall of China witnessed by numerous spectators.

David Copperfield is not the only one capable of flight

Throughout history, many nations have recorded phenomena of individuals being able to fly or perform light footwork over water or in the air…

Saint Joseph of Cupertino (1603–1663) is one such example, who occasionally levitated a few centimeters above the ground and even soared into the air before numerous witnesses across Italy. This phenomenon has been meticulously studied by Dr. Michael Grosso, who wrote a book titled: “The Man Who Could Fly: St. Joseph of Cupertino and the Mystery of Levitation”, published by Rowman & Littlefield, where he affirms the authenticity of all factors involved.

Some people today tend to deny all such events, believing them to be illusions stemming from religious fervor or the superstitions of a relatively primitive society. However, Dr. Grosso states: “There was no opposition, at least for 35 years, because all the witnesses involved… were of the highest status – cardinals, a pope, and even officials from the Inquisition.”

The Flying Abilities of Gurus and Qigong Practitioners

In Sanskrit, a Guru is a master highly skilled in a particular field, possessing exceptional talent and high social status. In yoga, Gurus are those who have practiced for many years and have mastered most difficult poses and techniques of the discipline.

For a long time, people have spoken of the flying abilities of yoga Gurus, who possess extraordinary skills that allow them to levitate in the air.

Subbayah Pullavar is one example. He was able to levitate in the air before hundreds of spectators. Photos of Subbayah Pullavar hovering about one meter above the ground, as if resting against an invisible chair, remain documented.

A British explorer named Alexandra David Neel also witnessed a Tibetan monk rising off the ground in the pine-covered plateaus of Tibet. Neel recounted that the monk bounced off the ground multiple times like a tennis ball. Many other monks could also lift themselves off the ground by up to 90 cm. They performed these feats not for public display but solely for religious rituals.

Many are also familiar with the flying abilities of a 19th-century Tibetan Buddhist monk named Daniel Dunglas Home.

In an American newspaper, a journalist described Home’s floating state as follows: “Suddenly, Home began to lift off the ground, leaving those in the room astonished. I saw his feet about 3 cm above the ground. He rose up and then came back down. On the third attempt, he touched the ceiling…”
This monk also demonstrated special abilities in front of thousands of spectators, including notable figures such as William Makepeace Thackeray, Mark Twain, Napoleon III, along with politicians, doctors, and scientists.

Most documented cases of levitation involve practitioners who have trained extensively. Today, this is rarely discussed, but in reality, flying is just a small ability among many extraordinary powers and supernatural abilities taught in the scriptures of various Buddhist or Taoist sects. Followers of Buddhism cannot overlook the two famous disciples of the Buddha, Moggallana and Ananda, who were both revered for their extraordinary powers among the Buddha’s disciples of that time.

Traditional Eastern Science Views ‘Flight’ as an Innate Ability of the Human Body

According to theories in Eastern medicine, the human body possesses a system of energy channels that run longitudinally and transversely, akin to a network called “meridians”, connecting the organs to various body parts. Energy flows through these channels to nourish and ensure the normal functioning of the body. Thus, when any part of this meridian system is blocked or problematic, it disrupts the functions it governs, manifesting as various health issues, from sneezing and runny nose to arthritis or any other chronic ailments.
When the body is ill, one experiences discomfort, heaviness, and may even struggle to lift oneself, becoming completely immobilized. Through various methods, primarily through ancient cultivation practices, if one can clear these channels, the body will become healthy and comfortable.

According to documentation from some ancient Qigong practices, the human body inherently possesses many miraculous abilities that modern people classify as extraordinary capabilities (even mystical and hard to believe), including the ability to see through bodies or objects, move items without physical contact, levitate, and more. Those who do not practice often have many blocked channels, leading to health issues caused by the presence of stagnant energy, often referred to as “black qi.” The more severe the illness, the thicker the black qi becomes. When they practice and cultivate along righteous paths, these channels gradually clear, the black qi dissipates, and the meridians become luminous, expanded, with energy flowing strongly through them. The better the energy flows, the lighter and more comfortable one feels, almost weightless. Ancient texts on cultivation convey a phrase called “ascending in broad daylight”, which means during the bright day, someone rises into the air.

Thus, during the cultivation process, individuals can heal their own ailments, gradually achieving a state of being free from illness. If they continue to practice, the energy within their bodies will flow smoothly and move vigorously, leading to a lightness in the body that can even allow them to lift off the ground.

However, many cultivation practices strictly prohibit disciples from demonstrating their extraordinary abilities in the ordinary world. The masters worry that when disciples perform, they may develop a showy mindset or use their abilities for personal gain, ultimately wasting the efforts of their cultivation.
