Brights Zoo in Tennessee, USA Welcomes Spotless Baby Giraffe.
Spotless baby giraffe.
A female giraffe born on July 31 surprised everyone with her lack of the characteristic spots. Brights Zoo reported that this giraffe measures 1.8 meters tall and is currently being cared for by her mother and zoo staff.
Brights Zoo believes it is extremely rare for giraffes to be born without spots, which serve as a form of camouflage in the wild. The skin beneath the spots also contains a vascular system that allows giraffes to release heat.
Notably, each giraffe has a unique pattern of spots, and researchers believe these patterns are inherited from the mother during pregnancy.
Brights Zoo hopes that this unusual birth will highlight the challenges giraffes face worldwide. The tallest animals on Earth are threatened by deforestation in Africa, as well as illegal poaching.
Mr. Tony Bright, founder of Brights Zoo, stated that 40% of the wild giraffe population has disappeared in just the last three decades.
