Chinese Scientists Innovate Tiny Transport Vehicles for Targeted Drug Delivery
Chinese scientists have invented a type of tiny transport vehicle capable of delivering medication into the bloodstream and releasing drugs for treatment.
Shi Jianlin, a researcher at the Shanghai Institute of Silicate under the Chinese Academy of Sciences, leads the research team behind this groundbreaking development. Shi stated, “This device, measuring 200 nanometers (a nanometer is 1/1000 of a millimeter), can safely carry medication and release it at targets designated by doctors.
This method can minimize side effects and maximize the effectiveness of the drug.” Shi has successfully completed intricate laboratory experiments by releasing anti-inflammatory and anti-cancer drugs.
Chinese scientists have made significant advancements in nanotechnology. Statistics indicate that from January to August 2004, China ranked first in nanotechnology research publications according to the Science Citation Index (SCI).
