In the South, attending a funeral is referred to as “going to the funeral,” attending a singing event is called “going to the performance,” visiting a temple is known as “going to worship,” participating in a celebration is termed “going to the feast,” and attending a wedding is described as “going to the wedding.”
There was a thrifty man who, when a friend got married, found it impossible to decline the invitation. He decided to give five thousand but wrote on the invitation:
– I am attending the wedding for ten thousand, please let me owe you five thousand.
When it was his turn to get married, the old friend reciprocated in the same style, writing on the invitation as follows:
– I am attending the wedding for ten thousand, please let me owe you five thousand; the remaining five thousand is to forgive the debt from before.
