Recently, a diamond mining company in Australia discovered a super rare diamond encapsulated within another diamond in Western Australia, estimated to be over a billion years old.
While excavating at a mineral mine in Western Australia, workers at India Bore unexpectedly found a 0.85-carat diamond containing a smaller diamond inside.
This diamond is estimated to have formed around 1.4 billion years ago.
It is known that the phenomenon of diamonds encapsulated within other diamonds is extremely rare and fetches high prices as diamond collectors frantically seek them out.
In 2019, the Russian mining company Alrosa found a similar diamond consisting of a 0.62-carat outer diamond encasing a 0.02-carat inner diamond. They named it the Matryoshka diamond – named after the famous Russian nesting dolls.
