This series of photos was taken during the patrol trip of Prince Chun, Yi Huan.
In 1886, Prince Chun Yi Huan was ordered by Empress Dowager Cixi to patrol the Northern Fleet, one of the four modern fleets of the Qing Dynasty navy.
While passing by the Hai Guang Temple in Tianjin, Prince Chun Yi Huan took photos with the then Governor-General of Zhili, Li Hongzhang, and General Shen Qui.

Prince Chun Yi Huan was a member of the imperial family, the son of Emperor Dao Guang, the father of Emperor Guang Xu, and the grandfather of Emperor Xuan Tong (Puyi).

County magistrate of Xian (Zhili) Wu Dao. From 1890, Wu Dao began serving as the magistrate in various counties including Gao Yi, Qing Yuan, and Xing Dai. By 1900, he officially took the position of magistrate of Xian (Zhili).

Admiral Ding Ruchang.
In 1888, Ding Ruchang was appointed as Admiral commanding the Northern Fleet. He made significant contributions to the establishment of the Qing navy.
In 1895, under Ding Ruchang’s command, the Northern Fleet suffered defeat, leading to his suicide.
Governor of Shandong Zhang Yao. Zhang Yao began serving as Governor of Shandong in 1886. In 1891, he fell seriously ill while in office and passed away shortly after.
