Vũ Tuyên is a district located in the southeast of Lai Tân City, within the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region of China, also known as Tiên Thành. The “Tiên Civilization” has existed in this land for a long time, dating back to the Tang Dynasty when it was referred to as Tiên Thành, a district characterized by its breathtaking landscapes and the “heavenly lake” that few people know about.
“Heavenly Lake” and the Legend of the Eight Immortals
Bát Tiên Thiên Trì covers an area of approximately 2km².
Bát Tiên Thiên Trì (translated: Heavenly Lake of the Eight Immortals) is situated amidst the Bát Tiên mountain range, next to the Quan Lộc village in Vũ Tuyên district, about 6km from the district center. This is the only “heavenly lake” in Guangxi and one of the famous scenic spots in the Zhuang Autonomous Region.
Bát Tiên Thiên Trì spans an area of about 2km² and is located over 120 meters above ground, surrounded by eight mountain peaks. The name Bát Tiên Thiên Trì is derived from this unique geographical feature.
Legend has it that long ago, eight fairies descended to the earthly realm after hearing about the breathtaking scenery in Vũ Tuyên. At that time, a great flood plagued the human world, and the fairies used a gourd to draw water to save the people, losing track of time and missing their return to the Heavenly Realm. Ultimately, the eight fairies transformed into eight mountains to guard the peace of Vũ Tuyên district.
Although Bát Tiên Thiên Trì is only 313 meters above sea level, the mountains often shroud it in mist, making the lake appear and disappear mysteriously, earning it the nickname “the mysterious lake.”
The scenery here is stunning, with majestic limestone mountains enveloping the emerald green lake at its center. The local government has constructed a path leading up the mountain so that visitors can enjoy the breathtaking views of this “heavenly lake.” Most importantly, visitors do not have to pay any entrance fees!
The Mysteries of “Heavenly Lake” – Bát Tiên Thiên Trì
The lake’s water has no connection to the ground.
In addition to its beautiful landscapes, Bát Tiên Thiên Trì also has many other intriguing features. Among them, the most curious is the “lonely mountain”, which stands alone, disconnected from the other eight peaks.
Interestingly, the water in the lake has no source connecting it to the ground, yet it does not dry up in the hot season or overflow during the rainy season.
The surrounding mountain clusters are lush with greenery and blooming flowers, but strangely, the lake’s surface is never covered with fallen leaves or petals. Some believe that the strong winds in the area blow away any leaves or flowers that fall, preventing them from settling on the lake.
Wherever there is water, there are usually fish, and Bát Tiên Thiên Trì is no exception. There are many fish in the lake, but no one has ever caught one, and over time, people have lost interest in fishing here. The locals believe that this “heavenly lake” absorbs the essence of the sun and moon, granting the fish a mystical quality.
Over thousands of years, due to the ever-changing scenery and the many mysteries surrounding Bát Tiên Thiên Trì, this place has historically attracted numerous scholars and idealists who come to explore and compose poetry.
