In an effort to monitor and preserve biodiversity, the Kẻ Gỗ Nature Reserve Management Board (Hà Tĩnh) has collaborated with relevant authorities to implement a project installing 88 camera traps throughout the reserve, capturing images of wildlife activity.

Through the camera trap system, 19 species of mammals, 13 species of birds, and 1 species of reptile have been recorded. Among these are familiar species such as striped rabbits, red-bellied squirrels, macaques, bamboo rats, black squirrels, deer, and wild boars, along with rare and less commonly seen species like the honey badger, crab-eating mongoose, wildcats, civets, North Asian silver foxes, clouded leopards, and golden-throated ferrets.

Among the mammals and birds recorded by the aforementioned camera traps, many individuals belong to endangered and rare wildlife categories classified as IB and IIB, listed in Vietnam and the global Red Book, making hunting, exploitation, and illegal trade strictly prohibited while prioritizing their protection and conservation.
The Kẻ Gỗ Nature Reserve is located in the southern part of Hà Tĩnh Province, approximately 15 kilometers from Hà Tĩnh City, situated in the eastern region of the Trường Sơn North mountain range, covering a total area of over 44,000 hectares and spanning three districts: Cẩm Xuyên, Hương Khê, and Kỳ Anh.
To date, the Kẻ Gỗ Nature Reserve has recorded 80 species of mammals, 298 species of birds, 63 species of reptiles, 33 species of amphibians, 302 species of insects, and 35 species of fish.
Of the mammal species, 17 species (accounting for 21%) are classified as endangered and rare, requiring special conservation efforts, including the flying squirrel, slow loris, red-shanked douc, pig-tailed macaque, stump-tailed macaque, brown-legged douc, black gibbon, sun bear, Asiatic black bear, common otter, banded civet, clouded leopard, tiger, banteng, Himalayan tahr, and the Malayan pangolin.
According to the Kẻ Gỗ Nature Reserve Management Board, relevant authorities need to develop solutions and provide financial support to implement management and protection efforts for biodiversity conservation in the forest area managed by the Kẻ Gỗ Nature Reserve Management Board.
