The newly discovered caves are primarily located within Phong Nha – Ke Bang National Park and the surrounding districts of Minh Hoa and Tuyen Hoa.
The surveyed caves range in length from 30 to 572 meters, with the four longest caves being: Va Cave (516m), 12/2 Dry Cave (404m), Vuc Hung Cave (430m), and Ong Dau Cave (572m). The heights of the cave entrances vary from 46 to 550 meters, and the depths range from 32 to 154 meters.
During this exploration, 7 caves in the core area of Phong Nha – Ke Bang National Park were surveyed with a total length of 1,415 meters; 7 caves in the buffer zone of the park were surveyed with a length of 1,027 meters; and 11 caves in the neighboring area of Lam Hoa (Tuyen Hoa) were surveyed with a length of 1,108 meters.

One explorer from the survey team stated that most of the recently discovered caves are incredibly enchanting. Each cave possesses unique features, representing the outstanding geological and geomorphological values of different areas within Phong Nha – Ke Bang National Park.
Mr. Pham Hong Thai, the director of the Management Board of Phong Nha – Ke Bang National Park, mentioned that the newly discovered caves are only within the scope of initial research, which includes locating and providing preliminary descriptions.
Therefore, the unit needs to conduct more in-depth surveys and studies to clarify their values, thus allowing for accurate assessments regarding the conservation and sustainable exploitation of these landscapes and caves.
Quang Binh is renowned as the “Kingdom of Caves” with over 400 caves already explored. Among them are Son Doong Cave – the largest cave in the world, and En Cave – the third largest cave in the world.
