The newly discovered island is located between Cuba and the Yucatán Peninsula of Mexico.
According to marine experts, this underwater island spans approximately 20 square kilometers and features many stone structures that are well-preserved and exhibit an organized layout similar to that of large urban centers of its time.
Researchers believe that when it was above water, this island may have had trade connections with several cities within the Bahamas archipelago. Satellite images reveal remnants of trade routes located beneath the ocean.
In addition to the constructions, scientists have also uncovered various traces resembling streets, avenues, bays, and ports. Similar structures have been found in other areas of the Caribbean Sea, near the Bahamas.
Some scientists suggest that tens of thousands of years ago, a cataclysmic disaster may have occurred in this region, leading to the destruction of the civilization that existed at that time.
