Associate Professor Ismail Reisli, a faculty member at Selcuk University, discovered this disease after three years of research in collaboration with four other international medical research centers.
Speaking at a press conference, Reisli noted that this disease – first identified in Konya, Turkey – is one of the conditions caused by a deficiency in the immune system.
Reisli emphasized that if this immune deficiency is not treated, it often leads to serious illnesses such as pneumonia, bronchitis, meningitis, and could even be fatal.
“The research team at Selcuk University has played a crucial role in identifying this previously unknown disease – to date. The first case to receive treatment at our facility is considered the first case in the world, which occurred four years ago. The patient was a 13-year-old girl who frequently suffered from pneumonia and bronchitis and was developmentally delayed compared to her peers,” Reisli stated.
Reisli also added that many signs of immune system diseases have not been fully recognized in recent years.
Turkish scientists have called for international scientific collaboration to further research to determine the origins, causes, and effective treatment therapies for this disease in order to prevent humanity from facing a new dangerous epidemic following the century’s disease – HIV/AIDS.
