This extraordinary shark is known as the basking shark (scientific name: Cetorhinus maximus), the second-largest fish species still in existence, following the whale shark, and the second among three species of filter-feeding sharks, along with the whale shark and the megamouth shark.
Despite its large size, the basking shark is very gentle and poses no danger to humans unless provoked. They often swim near boats and divers without harming them.
