Wild Albino Ocelot Discovered in Colombia

According to reports from authorities on December 28, the adorable creature with pure white fur and pink eyes was found in the Aburra Valley in poor health. It is an immature female.
The ocelot, also known as the American tree cat, has only two main color morphs: gray and red, along with a few that exhibit intermediate colors. The individual found in Aburra is the first reported case of albinism in this species in Colombia.

Veterinarians have been working around the clock to help the young ocelot recover. Afterward, it will be transferred to a conservation park in Medellin.
“At this moment, we cannot release the animal back into the wild due to its albinism. It is at risk of developing several health disorders and faces many disadvantages in the wild, such as being unable to camouflage while hunting. Therefore, the best solution for it is to live out the rest of its life in a sanctuary,” said veterinarian Carolis Madrid.

Ocelots prefer to live alone and typically only pair during the breeding season. Their habitat ranges from the southern United States to parts of South America.
In the wild, this wild cat can grow up to 77 cm in length and weigh between 3.5 to 7 kg, which is twice the size of a domestic cat. Their favorite prey includes rodents, reptiles, fish, birds, and small mammals.
