During a meeting of the National Steering Committee for the Prevention of SARS and Avian Influenza in humans on March 1, Dr. Trinh Quan Huan – Deputy Minister of Health reported that in just the first two days of the past week, there have been an additional 375 cases of dengue fever, bringing the total number of cases in this region to over 4,800 in the first two months of the year.
Compared to the same period in 2005, the number of dengue fever cases has increased by 38%. The localities with the highest patient rates include Ho Chi Minh City, Dong Thap, An Giang, Soc Trang, and Tien Giang…
In the northern region, Sin Ho district (Lai Chau province) is experiencing a measles outbreak with 65 reported cases, of which 60% are children. The local health authorities attribute this outbreak to children not being vaccinated against measles, coupled with the humid weather creating favorable conditions for the disease to spread.
Additionally, respiratory illnesses have been reported across various localities nationwide. In Hanoi, 731 students from 12 schools have experienced fever, attributed to Adenovirus, Rubella, chickenpox, and mumps.
In response to the outbreak situation, on March 7, the Ministry of Health will collaborate with the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development to launch a comprehensive environmental sanitation campaign, starting from Ha Tay province. Following this, the campaign will be implemented in Quang Nam on March 14 and in Tien Giang on March 21.
