Video technology company DivX has announced a partnership with Google to provide Google Video services for a wide range of consumer electronic devices. The DivX video codec technology offers compression quality up to 10 times better than traditional MPEG2 formats, allowing a full-length movie to be compressed onto a CD or up to eight episodes onto a DVD.
DivX has also announced that Pioneer Electronics will introduce a new line of DVD players certified for DivX compatibility in the United States; additionally, JVE will unveil a range of DVD devices designed for cars in North America.
Similar to the widely-used MP3 format, DivX allows users to create and view encoded video clips that are small enough to be transmitted over the Internet and viewed on several handheld devices. The latest DivX 6.0 technology enables the storage of high-definition (HD) personal video clips and facilitates the distribution of newly produced commercial films.
