On November 28, a research team from the Institute of Geophysics began a week-long survey on earthquakes in the Ho Chi Minh City area.
The research team announced that they would measure microseismic vibrations at various locations to assess the relationship between vibrations at the measurement sites and those caused by recent earthquakes that have shaken many structures in Ho Chi Minh City.
The measurement results will serve as a basis for forecasting seismic activity at the measurement locations and will also inform the design standards for earthquake-resistant construction. Additionally, the research team is conducting field investigations into the recent earthquakes based on information provided by eyewitnesses.
Dr. Le Tu Son, head of the Earthquake Observation Department at the Institute of Geophysics, stated: “I maintain the view that no vibrations in Ho Chi Minh City are caused by earthquakes occurring in this area. All vibrations are due to earthquakes offshore near Vung Tau (more than 190 km from Ho Chi Minh City), which affect the city.”
