The health benefits of tomatoes for humans are linked to a component known as lycopene, which serves as an antioxidant.
However, scientists at Liverpool John Moores University (LJMU) state that lycopene is only beneficial for the human body when tomatoes are cooked, preferably alongside some types of cooking oil.
Currently, researchers are assessing various cooking methods for tomatoes to determine the best approach that maximizes the effects of lycopene.
Numerous studies have previously indicated that tomatoes are highly beneficial for health. Most recently, scientists found that tomatoes can reduce the risk of esophageal cancer, digestive system cancers, and prostate cancer, as well as lower the risk of asthma.
Cardiovascular disease is one of the leading causes of death worldwide. In the UK, cardiovascular disease accounts for one-third of annual deaths.
