Razorback2, one of the largest peer-to-peer sharing systems of eDonkey, has attracted over 3 million users and has been forced to cease operations following a surprise inspection by police in Belgium and Switzerland.
Razorback2 served as a crucial indexing server for eDonkey and operated solely through other systems like eMule. It did not store files or documents but played a significant role in accessing a vast array of copyrighted content (estimated to be around 170 million files).
Dan Glickman, the Chairman and CEO of the Motion Picture Association (MPA), stated that the owners of Razorback2 failed to implement adequate measures to manage the files exchanged by users, including many files containing “child pornography, bomb-making instructions, and terrorist training materials“. Naturally, even if they successfully controlled and prevented such content, the MPA could still charge them with facilitating piracy.
