A baby mouse was snatched right before the eyes of its mother, who did not hesitate to charge at the predator to reclaim her offspring.
The clip was shared by a woman on Facebook with the caption: “When I got home, I witnessed a courageous act by a mother mouse.”
The footage shows a snake gripping a baby mouse in its mouth as it attempts to escape. Immediately, the mother mouse chased after it, fiercely attacking the snake, forcing it to give up and release the baby mouse.
At this moment, the baby mouse lay motionless on the ground while the snake slithered into the bushes to hide. The mother mouse continued to pursue the enemy before finally returning to take her child to safety.
However, the mother mouse did not relent and kept chasing the snake for a decisive confrontation. A moment later, the snake vanished, and the mother mouse returned to bring her baby to safety. According to the person who posted the clip, she was unsure if the baby mouse survived the snake’s attack.
All species of snakes are carnivorous, feeding on small animals such as lizards, birds, small mammals, fish, insects, snails, other snakes, and the eggs of these prey. Since snakes cannot bite or tear their food into pieces, they must swallow their prey whole.
Smaller snake species consume smaller prey. For instance, they may start their feeding habits with lizards or mice.
