American billionaire Elon Musk states that when this technology is ready for human application, he will implant a brain chip into his own body.
At an event announcing several achievements with Neuralink on November 30, American billionaire Elon Musk revealed that when this technology is ready for human application, he will implant a brain chip into his own body.
When Neuralink is ready for human application, Elon Musk will implant a brain chip into his own body.
After the event, Musk reiterated this on Twitter. He also confirmed this when journalist Ashlee Vance asked if it was true that he would participate in the brain chip testing. His answer was “Yes.”
At the event, Musk mentioned that Neuralink has submitted most of its paperwork to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and is awaiting approval.
He hopes that Neuralink will begin this testing within the next six months at the earliest.
Neuralink, founded by Musk and a team of scientists and engineers in 2016, aims to develop a brain-computer interface (BCI) that connects the human brain to computers capable of decoding neural signals.
Elon Musk established Neuralink in 2016, expecting the company to successfully develop a “brain-computer interface” to treat brain diseases and allow humans to merge with AI in the future.
In 2019, Musk promised to implant brain chips into humans by 2020, but this project has yet to be realized.
Meanwhile, Synchron, a competitor of Neuralink, has received FDA approval since 2019 and successfully tested brain chip implantation on a human in Melbourne earlier this year.
Also at the event on November 30, Neuralink showcased its latest achievement in a video. Early last year, the company successfully tested a chip implant in the skull of a monkey, allowing it to play games.
