The first project coordination meeting to develop the disaster management system for the Asia-Pacific region. |
By utilizing ground-based remote sensing satellites, the system will forecast the occurrence and impact of disasters in the region. Additionally, the system will facilitate quick decision-making for disaster prevention activities.
In 2006-2007, space agencies and disaster prevention agencies from Asian countries will collaborate to initiate the project ”Sentinel-Asia”. This marks the first step towards establishing a disaster management system.
Through the internet, Sentinel-Asia will provide satellite information related to disaster prevention, particularly concerning forest fires and floods.
In the following two years, the satellite remote sensing systems of various countries and information satellite networks will be effectively coordinated. The goal is to deliver disaster alerts to individuals, monitor the occurrence of disasters, and provide observational information to disaster prevention agencies.
It is anticipated that by 2010, the disaster management system for the Asia-Pacific region will be fully established.
