“Earth’s Black Box” – Hộp đen của Trái đất is a project that began in 2022, in collaboration with the University of Tasmania, marketing company Clemenger BBDO, and creative agency Glue Society.
Despite significant advancements in technology, humanity remains anxious about the impending threat of extinction.
The sixth mass extinction has commenced and seems to be accelerating due to various human-induced factors. Numerous academic documents present harsh realities about how things are unfolding and the likely outcomes. Scientists are so certain of this that they have started constructing a Black Box to record the extinction of humanity, should someone or something visit this doomed planet in the future. The concept of the Black Box is derived from the data storage devices used in airplanes, which utilize “indestructible” technology to document every event occurring on and with the aircraft—an essential tool that helps investigators determine the cause of an accident. The product created by Clemenger BBDO will be named ‘Earth’s Black Box’.
“Earth’s Black Box” is a colossal steel structure located on the remote island of Tasmania. It will witness and document the end of Earth under the impacts of climate change. To achieve this seemingly impossible task, the Black Box is equipped with numerous hard drives, each intended to record and preserve real-time updates and scientific analyses regarding the most urgent issues facing the world, including climate change, extinction, pollution, and health impacts. This data will be preserved within a monolithic structure.

People claim that a mass extinction is no longer possible, but scientists think quite the opposite. The most important aspect of history is the traces left by our ancestors. If tomorrow were the last day for humanity, wouldn’t leaving a trace of our existence be a good idea?
The individuals behind the Black Box project are unsure whether any experts will analyze our extinction. However, compared to ancient civilizations, we will have something more than just the remnants of cities and statues. The Black Box is designed to be nearly indestructible against any catastrophe that might occur on Earth, such as nuclear war or natural disasters. In this structure measuring 10m x 4m x 3m, solid rock will be used to record hundreds of datasets ranging from modern human civilization to an overall health analysis of our planet.

The Black Box project aims to provide a documentary source about the final events leading to the extinction of humanity and possibly this planet. Some critics have argued that instead of attempting to propose solutions to the problems that will lead to the end of this planet, they are using resources to document our demise. As experts have pointed out, science may advance far beyond the present moment, but without the support of everyone living on this planet, it will be very difficult to make a difference or initiate change.
Some have suggested that this might just be a PR stunt aimed at warning about the imminent dangers of climate change, with the hope that people will take action by changing their lifestyles.
However, the truth is that we should not rely on any scientific breakthroughs, at least in the near future, that could reverse global warming. The organisms living on this planet depend on positive changes from humanity right now to prolong the life of Earth in the future.
