The Super Sub submarine by U-Boat Worx can glide underwater at a speed of 18.5 km/h, significantly faster than conventional submarines.
U-Boat Worx, the renowned submarine manufacturer, unveiled its latest product, the Super Sub, at the Monaco Yacht Show, marking a significant advancement in maritime technology, as reported by Interesting Engineering on October 4th. This submarine model combines high performance with advanced engineering, making it ideal for underwater exploration.

With a powerful propulsion system and innovative design, the Super Sub aims to revolutionize underwater exploration. The vehicle can dive at a steep angle of 30 degrees, ensuring the smoothest experience for passengers with a 360-degree view. The pressure-resistant transparent hull is located at the front of the submarine, providing an unobstructed view in all directions. The creative design allows passengers to enjoy panoramic views without being obstructed by ballast tanks, batteries, or other components.
The most notable feature of this submarine model is its unprecedented high speed, reaching up to 18.5 km/h, which is 5.6 to 7.4 km/h faster than the cruising speed of bottlenose dolphins and more than 13 km/h faster than conventional submarines. This extreme speed offers thrill-seekers the chance to glide alongside sea turtles, race with sharks, and dolphins.
The advanced SHARC controller of the Super Sub coordinates the operation of the wings and propulsion system harmoniously. The wings at the rear of the submarine allow the vehicle to turn sharply and maneuver, providing unprecedented agility.
The Super Sub is equipped with numerous safety features such as “maximum depth protection”, which prevents the submarine from descending beyond permissible depths. In case of emergencies, a safety buoy marks the submarine’s position on the water’s surface and can release a weight to increase buoyancy. Additionally, the Super Sub has life support equipment for a minimum of 96 hours.
The first Super Sub submarine will be delivered to customers by the end of 2023 and will be available in 2024.
