Australian scientists have developed a device they call the most precise and fastest microscope in the world, powerful enough to identify tiny pieces of material in just a few milliseconds.
The Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO) of Australia has created this device to analyze materials, assisting police investigations.
“We can search for materials collected from a surface under investigation and compare them with materials found on clothing or a vehicle for analysis,” said Dr. Alan Butcher, a member of the research team. In most cases, this device can be used to determine the exact composition of materials.
A beam of electrons scans, analyzes, and X-rays the material, determining its composition, with each analysis taking about 5 milliseconds instead of an entire day, as is currently the case.
The device can also be applied in fields such as archaeology, forensic science, and mineral technology.
