iDefense Labs, a branch of VeriSign, has officially launched a major platform for hackers and security professionals worldwide called the “Quarterly Hacking Challenge,” offering a prize of up to $10,000 for discovering a critical security vulnerability in Microsoft products.
The discovered vulnerabilities must be submitted to the Microsoft Security Bulletin by March 31. According to the guidelines, a security vulnerability is classified as critical if it can be exploited without technical intervention, allowing it to proliferate and spread deeply across the Internet.
Last year, iDefense Labs reported 150 security vulnerabilities across various computer products, including 11 Microsoft software applications. The acquisition of security vulnerabilities is no longer uncommon; Tipping Point of 3Com has also purchased information on vulnerabilities discovered through the hacker program known as ZDI (Zero Day Initiative).
