South Korean Scientists Discover New Substance Effective in Treating Immune Disorders
On April 10th, a research team led by Professor Lee Sang-kyoo from the Department of Biotechnology at Yonsei University (South Korea) announced the discovery of a new substance known as FHT-CT4. This compound is a mixture of the Hph-1 protein, which is similar to proteins that transport substances into cells found in viruses or flies, and CTLA-4. FHT-CT4 has the potential to regulate T cells, which play a crucial role in immune responses.
When T cells become excessively activated, they are more susceptible to external stimuli, leading to the onset of conditions such as allergies, asthma, and arthritis.
Professor Lee’s research team found that FHT-CT4 prevents T cells from becoming overly activated, thereby inhibiting the emergence of these diseases. The South Korean scientists believe that FHT-CT4 holds significant therapeutic potential due to its minimal side effects, primarily affecting only T cells.
