The UK government has launched a program to provide free fire alarm devices for the hearing impaired. These smoke detectors are specially designed for individuals with hearing difficulties, featuring alert lights, vibrating components, and sound alerts.
Unlike conventional fire alarms that are mounted on ceilings, hearing-impaired individuals can place these devices under their pillows or on their mattresses. When smoke is detected, the devices will vibrate and flash lights to wake them up. Statistics indicate that about one-third of hearing-impaired individuals struggle to respond when fire alarms ring at midnight, as they often remove their hearing aids while sleeping, while nearly one-quarter report facing difficulties during the day.
