The first bluefin tuna auction of 2022 at the Toyosu Fish Market in Tokyo, Japan, recorded a record price of $145,000 for a fish weighing 211 kg.

According to AFP (France), the price of 16.9 million yen ($145,000) is still significantly lower than the record of 333.6 million yen set in 2019.
The tuna was caught in the northern part of Aomori Prefecture, Japan, which is renowned for its high-quality tuna.
The Onodera restaurant chain successfully bid for this tuna. A representative from Onodera stated that the tuna will be divided into several portions and served to customers at their restaurants in Japan and abroad, including locations in Hawaii, New York, and Los Angeles (USA).
